Yemeni missile prompts flight suspensions at Ben Gurion Airport

Yemen’s Armed Forces launched a missile targeting Israeli-occupied airspace on Thursday, triggering air raid sirens across Tel Aviv and temporarily halting all flights at Ben Gurion Airport.
The attack, described as an act of solidarity with the Palestinian people, caused widespread disruption and underscored Yemen’s escalating military reach.
Israeli authorities confirmed that air traffic at Ben Gurion Airport was suspended due to the missile’s trajectory, though the Israeli military claimed the projectile was intercepted. No casualties were reported, but the incident heightened fears among settlers and prompted international airlines to reassess operations at the airport.
Nasreddin Amer, Deputy Head of the Media Authority for Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement, declared the strike a direct message to Israel. “The Lydd Airport, known to Israel as Ben Gurion, is no longer safe,” Amer posted on social media, urging airlines to suspend flights to ensure passenger safety until Israel halts its military operations in Gaza and lifts the ongoing siege.
The missile strike is part of a series of coordinated attacks by Yemen’s Armed Forces, which have repeatedly targeted key Israeli sites, including Ben Gurion Airport, in what they describe as an aerial blockade in support of the Palestinian cause. The escalating security risks have led several international airlines to cancel flights to and from Israel.
In a recent address, Ansar Allah leader Sayyed Abdul Malik al-Houthi reaffirmed Yemen’s commitment to supporting Palestinians, despite a recent Israeli strike on Sanaa International Airport. “We are in a position of action and resistance, striking the Israeli enemy,” he said, vowing to intensify operations with “more effective and impactful” strikes in the near future.
The attack comes amid growing regional outrage over Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza, which has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, including many women and children. Yemen’s actions are increasingly viewed as a symbol of resistance against Israel’s policies, as international efforts to halt the violence in Gaza remain stalled. (ILKHA)
