Zelenskyy congratulates US President Donald Trump on Independence Day during phone call
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin both held phone conversations with U.S. President Donald Trump on July 4, discussing the ongoing war in Ukraine and diplomatic efforts to bring it to an end.
During the call, Zelensky congratulated the U.S. president and the American people on Independence Day, while expressing gratitude for Washington's continued military and political support.
"We are grateful to the United States for all the assistance provided, from Javelins and Patriots to political support," Zelensky said. He added that Ukraine appreciates "that America stands with us in defending our independence."
The two leaders reviewed the current battlefield situation and ongoing diplomatic initiatives. Zelensky stated there is "a real opportunity to end this war, and America's determination will be decisive." They agreed to continue discussions in person at the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara.
