Civil society urges Muslim unity to end Gaza genocide on 1,000th day of Israeli aggression
Israeli occupation regime’s genocidal war on Gaza has reached its 1,000th day since October 7, 2023, with Palestinian casualties continuing to mount even after a fragile ceasefire took effect, activists and solidarity groups have warned.
Despite the ceasefire that came into force on October 10, 2025, the Israeli occupation regime has continued airstrikes, artillery bombardments, home demolitions, and restrictions on humanitarian aid and civilian movement across the besieged Gaza Strip.
According to figures released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 1,045 Palestinians have been martyred and 3,380 others wounded since the ceasefire took effect. An additional 786 bodies have been recovered from beneath the rubble of destroyed buildings.
The latest figures raise the overall death toll from the Israeli war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, to 73,058 martyrs, while the number of wounded has reached 173,488.
Speaking on the 1,000th day of the assault, Abdulaziz Önen, a member of the Mardin Jerusalem Platform, said the crimes committed against Palestinians did not begin in October 2023 but are part of a longstanding campaign of occupation and aggression.
"The genocide in Gaza has now continued for one thousand days. However, these crimes did not begin on October 7. The occupiers have been carrying out this genocide since 1948," Önen said.
He criticized Muslim governments for what he described as their failure to take meaningful steps to stop the ongoing bloodshed despite widespread public support for Palestine across the Islamic world.
"Unfortunately, there are more than 50 Islamic countries in the world, yet these states have not been able to stop this genocide," he said. "The people are doing what they can through boycotts, demonstrations, and solidarity campaigns. However, governments and those who hold power have failed to fulfill their responsibilities."

Önen stressed that public mobilization in support of Gaza continues despite the shortcomings of official responses.
"The people have not remained silent. They continue to protest, organize campaigns, and stand with the Palestinian people. However, the measures taken at the state level remain insufficient in the face of the scale of the atrocities being committed," he added.
Warning of the broader consequences of the occupation's policies, Önen said the Israeli regime continues its actions because it faces inadequate pressure from the international community.
"The occupiers only understand the language of power. As long as they do not face effective deterrence, they will continue their aggression and oppression," he said.
Önen also emphasized the importance of Muslim unity, arguing that meaningful action can only be achieved through collective efforts.
"As civil society organizations, we continue to organize protests, support boycott campaigns, and keep Gaza on the public agenda. Aid organizations are providing assistance to our brothers and sisters in Gaza through shelters, food distribution, and humanitarian projects. But these efforts alone are not enough," he said.
He called on Muslim nations to strengthen cooperation and adopt a common position against the ongoing attacks on Gaza.
"The Muslim world can only stop these crimes through unity and solidarity. Joint action and a unified stance are urgently needed," Önen stated.
Highlighting the importance of maintaining international attention on Gaza, Önen said awareness campaigns remain a vital tool in confronting injustice.
"Keeping Gaza on the agenda may not immediately stop the genocide, but it helps awaken consciences and expose the oppression taking place before the eyes of the world," he said.
He added that solidarity movements, boycott initiatives, and public demonstrations play an important role in ensuring that the suffering of the Palestinian people is not forgotten.
As the Gaza genocide reaches its 1,000th day, Palestinian advocates and solidarity groups continue to call for stronger international action to end the attacks, lift the blockade, protect civilians, and hold Israeli leaders accountable for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against the Palestinian people.
