President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a high-level meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, reaffirming Türkiye’s unwavering support for Somalia’s peace, security, and territorial integrity.
The leaders discussed bilateral ties between Türkiye and Somalia, along with pressing regional and global developments. President Erdoğan underscored the significance Türkiye places on Somalia’s stability, assuring that Ankara will continue to back efforts toward securing lasting peace in the Horn of Africa—particularly the ongoing dialogue with Ethiopia.
“Türkiye will persist in its support for the process aimed at achieving permanent peace and stability,” Erdoğan stated, highlighting Türkiye’s commitment to a peaceful resolution between Somalia and Ethiopia.
The Turkish president also emphasized the long-standing cooperation between the two nations in the fight against terrorism. “Our partnership in combating terrorism will continue to deepen. Türkiye has always stood with the Somali people in their fight against terror,” he said.
In addition to security matters, the two leaders discussed strengthening collaboration in key sectors such as economy, trade, defense, and security. Erdoğan highlighted the mutual benefits of deeper cooperation in these areas, pointing to Türkiye’s broader strategy of engagement in Africa.
The visit marks another milestone in the growing strategic partnership between Türkiye and Somalia, which has seen expanded ties in infrastructure development, humanitarian aid, and defense in recent years. (ILKHA)
