In a press conference at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, HÜDA PAR Deputy Chairman and Gaziantep MP Şahzade Demir addressed key domestic and foreign issues.
His remarks spanned topics such as the Kurdish issue, Israel’s controversial role in the United Nations, and the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
A Call for a Just Solution to the Kurdish Issue
Opening with a historical perspective, Demir emphasized the shared history of Turks and Kurds, underscoring that their unity is based on “a thousand-year-old brotherhood.” Reflecting on their joint struggle during the War of Independence, he stated, “As two nations who fought side by side, Turks and Kurds forged a lasting bond.” However, he expressed disappointment over policies that led to division, saying, “This brotherhood began to break down with the state’s policies of denial and assimilation against the Kurds after the founding of the Republic.”
He commended President Erdoğan's government for taking steps toward reform, noting that “important changes were made, even if there were shortcomings.” However, he voiced frustration at groups who, as he put it, “prioritize their organizational interests over solving the Kurdish issue.” Demir underscored that the Kurdish issue has often been manipulated by political actors and called for an end to its exploitation. “We must ensure the Kurdish issue is never again used as a political tool. Both Turks and Kurds deserve a future grounded in respect, rights, and a shared homeland,” he declared.
Demir also called for constitutional changes, stressing that “the constitution must be freed from uniformist and marginalizing elements.” Highlighting the need for practical reforms, he emphasized: “Brotherhood cannot be limited to words alone; it must be reflected in action and in law.”
Urging International Sanctions Against Israel
In his discussion of Israel’s actions in Palestine and Lebanon, Demir delivered a forceful critique, stating, “It is shameful that an entity which disregards the resolutions of the United Nations and flagrantly violates international laws continues to be part of an international structure like the UN.” Referring to Malaysia's proposal to expel Israel from the UN, he said: “Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s call is significant, and Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Numan Kurtulmuş, also pointed out that the time has come to reconsider Israel’s membership in the United Nations.”
On the subject of arms sanctions, Demir praised Türkiye's recent efforts, stating, “The request by 52 countries and two international organizations, led by Türkiye, for measures to halt arms deliveries to the genocidal regime is overdue but essential.” He criticized the international community’s inaction, adding, “It’s a glaring example of double standards that no sanctions have yet been imposed on Israel despite its documented war crimes.”
Demir also called for reforms within the UN to address structural biases, referencing President Erdoğan’s well-known assertion, “The world is greater than five.” He elaborated, “We need a new, just international system where nations have an equal say, not one dominated by powers who enable aggression and ignore the suffering of millions.”
Sudan’s Civil War and Humanitarian Crisis
Turning his attention to Sudan, Demir painted a grim picture of the humanitarian toll exacted by the ongoing civil war. “This tragic conflict has led to unimaginable suffering,” he stated. “With over 20,000 lives lost, 14 million displaced, and millions in desperate need of humanitarian aid, Sudan is in the throes of one of the world’s worst crises.”
Demir drew parallels to Sudan’s previous civil war, warning that the same scenario was repeating itself, with external powers fueling violence. “The people of Sudan deserve peace, not to be dragged into death and misery by foreign interests,” he stated, urging Sudanese leaders to end the violence and seek reconciliation.
He called on the international community to increase humanitarian aid efforts, stating: “Countries must come together to support Sudan’s people and not allow external interests to deepen this crisis.” Demir also called for sanctions on any nation prolonging the conflict, saying: “There must be consequences for those who profit from Sudan’s suffering.”
A Vision for Peace and Unity
Throughout his remarks, Demir’s message reflected HÜDA PAR’s vision for Türkiye and the world: a commitment to unity, justice, and peace. “Our goal must be to forge a country where Turks and Kurds walk side by side in equality,” he states passionately. On the international front, he called for a “just global system” where principles triumph over power politics. He closed with a hopeful appeal, saying: “Let us work for a future where brotherhood and peace define our nation and our world.”
Through his statements, Demir emphasized HÜDA PAR’s dedication to addressing Türkiye’s issues while advocating for justice on the global stage. (ILKHA)
