HÜDA PAR: Status quoists oppose peaceful resolution to Kurdish issue

HÜDA PAR Deputy Chairman İshak Sağlam has responded to criticism surrounding the "Workshop on Humanitarian Solution to the Kurdish Issue," which concluded with a final declaration on Sunday in Diyarbakır.
In a statement on X, Sağlam emphasized that the workshop, held on February 15-16, was attended by politicians, opinion leaders, scholars, NGO representatives, researchers, writers, and journalists from various segments of society.
Sağlam outlined key discussions from the workshop, stating that valuable opinions and suggestions were presented to address the Kurdish issue, which he described as a century-old problem. The workshop focused on establishing social peace and strengthening Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood.
Sağlam criticized those who opposed the workshop, stating that the event was among the rare studies conducted on the causes, consequences, and potential solutions to the Kurdish issue. He accused "status quoists" of deliberately resisting resolution efforts.
“Those who are disturbed by the workshop are obviously those who oppose ending the cycle of violence," Sağlam said. He added that certain factions seek to prevent the state from making peace with its own society and accused them of trying to maintain the unresolved status of the Kurdish issue.
Sağlam also pointed to threats and criticisms aimed at HÜDA PAR, arguing that such attacks ultimately target all political entities advocating civil solutions, including the ruling AK Party. He called for administrative and legal actions against those using threatening language and likened their actions to historical attempts to suppress dissent through measures like the Independence Courts.
“The general message of the workshop is actually a demand for the state to reconcile with its society. However, those who fear this are eager to revive oppressive institutions like the Independence Courts," Sağlam stated.
Concluding his remarks, Sağlam reaffirmed HÜDA PAR’s commitment to fighting against those resisting a peaceful resolution, vowing to continue advocating for a fair constitution and the establishment of social unity.
The Kurdish issue remains one of Türkiye’s most critical political challenges, and the workshop’s findings may contribute to ongoing discussions on potential solutions. (ILKHA)
