HÜDA PAR urges justice, national unity on 10th anniversary of July 15 coup attempt
HÜDA PAR has issued a statement marking the 10th anniversary of the failed July 15, 2016, coup attempt, describing the events as an "imperialist occupation attempt" that was defeated through the determination of the nation.
The party paid tribute to those who lost their lives while resisting the putsch and emphasized that the events of July 15 underscored the importance of strengthening Türkiye politically, militarily, and economically while promoting social peace and justice.
HÜDA PAR said the resistance of ordinary citizens who confronted tanks and coup plotters demonstrated the nation's commitment to protecting its democratic institutions and independence.
"The attempt, which was thwarted through Allah's help and the sacrifice of our nation, was not merely a coup attempt but an imperialist occupation attempt," the party said.
The statement argued that the anniversary should serve as a reminder that Türkiye must remain alert not only against groups seeking to undermine the constitutional order but also against what it described as foreign powers that support such efforts.
According to HÜDA PAR, the country's progress toward greater national independence should continue through investments in strategic sectors, particularly the defense industry, while ensuring that economic development is accompanied by social cohesion, justice, and prosperity.
The party also highlighted the transition to the Presidential Government System, arguing that, despite requiring further reforms, it has weakened what it described as longstanding tutelage structures that operated outside the democratic will of the people.
"Although it has aspects that need reform, the transition to the Presidential Government System has disrupted the established order of tutelage centers that do not derive their authority from the will of the people," the statement said.
While reaffirming support for efforts to combat those responsible for the coup attempt, HÜDA PAR stressed that all legal proceedings should be conducted in strict accordance with the rule of law and principles of justice.
The party warned against judicial practices that could undermine public confidence in the legal system, calling for careful examination of allegations that individuals with differing levels of involvement in the coup attempt may have been treated similarly during judicial proceedings.
"Judicial practices that wound the public conscience must be strictly avoided," the statement said, adding that claims regarding an imbalance between crimes committed and punishments imposed should be investigated thoroughly.
HÜDA PAR argued that preserving public trust in the justice system is essential for maintaining social unity, emphasizing that preventing future coup attempts and safeguarding justice must remain complementary objectives.
"The process we are experiencing requires taking serious measures to prevent coups while meticulously upholding justice at the same time," the party said.
Concluding its statement, HÜDA PAR honored those who were killed resisting the July 15 coup attempt and offered prayers for the country's future.
"On the anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt, we pray for God's mercy on our heroic martyrs and ask Almighty Allah to protect our country and the entire Islamic world from oppression and injustice, occupation and massacres," the statement concluded.
