Lebanon's new President calls for swift government formation

Lebanon's newly elected President Joseph Aoun has urged for the swift establishment of a new government, emphasizing the need to send positive signals to the international community.
In statements made during a meeting with a delegation from the Supreme Islamic Shiite Council, President Aoun highlighted the importance of exploiting current opportunities and showcasing Lebanon's capability to govern transparently and reconstruct the nation. "No obstacles should be put in the way of forming the government for a simple reason: We have great opportunities today that must be exploited," Aoun stated.
He underscored reconstruction as the primary focus of his administration, planning to travel abroad to seek assistance for rebuilding efforts following nearly 14 months of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
Aoun also stressed the necessity for national unity, saying: "No component in this country must have an advantage over another. Lebanon is a state for all. If a component is broken, all of Lebanon will be broken."
Joseph Aoun, who previously served as Lebanon's army chief, was elected president on January 9, ending a presidential vacancy that lasted over two years. On Monday, he appointed Nawaf Salam as Prime Minister, charging him with the formation of the new government. (ILKHA)
