Magnitude 4.1 earthquake hits southern Türkiye

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake shook the Antakya district of Turkey's southern Hatay province, as reported by the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency on its official website.
The earthquake, which occurred at approximately 21:24 TSI, had its epicenter located at a latitude of 36.33083 degrees north and a longitude of 36.15306 degrees east. The seismic activity took place at a depth of 11.16 km.
This incident follows a notable seismic event on February 6 when a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck southern Türkiye and northern Syria, resulting in a tragic toll.
Over 50,000 lives were lost, and more than 108,000 individuals sustained injuries across the ten most affected provinces in Türkiye, with additional casualties reported in adjacent Elazığ and Batman provinces.
The aftermath of the earlier earthquake left a lasting impact, affecting at least 13.5 million people and causing damage to 4 million buildings. The grim situation unfolded as thousands found themselves trapped under rubble when buildings collapsed.
Providing insight into the widespread devastation, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change conducted damage inspections for 763,000 buildings.
Shockingly, at least 41,791 buildings in ten Turkish provinces were reported as heavily damaged or destroyed, leaving approximately 150,000 people homeless in the process.
Authorities are now on high alert, closely monitoring the situation and assessing the need for immediate assistance in the affected areas. (ILKHA)
