Türkiye's presidency slams Leman cartoon as "vile attack" on Islamic values

The Turkish Presidency has strongly condemned a cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad published in the satirical magazine Leman, calling it a provocative and offensive act against Islamic values.
In a statement shared on social media, Fahrettin Altun, Head of Communications for the Presidency, denounced the publication, describing it as “an unacceptable provocation” and confirmed that all relevant state institutions have taken action in response.
"The immoral depiction of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the publication named Leman is an unacceptable provocation," Altun stated. "All units of our state are taking the necessary action against this vile attack on our faith and values."
Altun urged citizens to remain calm and avoid reacting to provocations, emphasizing the state’s commitment to addressing the issue within the framework of law and public order.
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced that the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a judicial investigation under Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code for "publicly degrading religious values." As part of the investigation, the İstanbul Police Department, under the coordination of the Ministry of Interior, detained three individuals identified as D.P., Z.A., and C.O., with arrest warrants also issued for several executives of the magazine.
The building housing Leman magazine has reportedly been evacuated and secured by police forces, with authorities working to prevent any public unrest in the area.
"Our state is working to bring all those responsible for the incident to justice," Altun affirmed, adding that Turkey would address the issue with determination and within the rule of law.
He concluded his message by warning that such actions aim to destabilize national unity and called on the public to stand firm against attempts to sow division. (ILKHA)
