Magnitude 4.6 earthquake rocks Van province in eastern Türkiye
A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Tuşba district of Van province in eastern Türkiye on Sunday, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced.
The quake occurred at a relatively shallow depth of 6.11 kilometers, according to AFAD’s preliminary data. The tremor was felt not only in Tuşba but also in neighboring districts and nearby provinces, prompting brief panic as residents rushed out of homes and buildings for safety.
Initial field scans conducted by local authorities reported no casualties or significant structural damage. Disaster response teams have been deployed across the affected areas to carry out detailed inspections and assess any potential risks.
AFAD and provincial emergency units stated that monitoring of the region continues around the clock. Officials urged the public to stay vigilant, avoid damaged or suspect buildings, and follow only official announcements for updates.
No further strong aftershocks had been recorded at the time of reporting. (ILKHA)
