Mother and son found dead after landslide in Zonguldak

A two-story house collapsed in Asma Mahallesi, the central district of Zonguldak, Türkiye, on December 9th, due to a landslide, and two citizens were trapped under the debris.
The mother and son, 82-year-old Perihan Çakar and her 51-year-old son Sait Çakar, were found dead after extensive search and rescue efforts by the Zonguldak Municipality, gendarmerie, and Turkey Coal Enterprises (TTK) rescue teams under the coordination of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The initial landslide was followed by a second one, which resulted in a construction machine being trapped under the soil.
Twenty-one personnel were injured during the rescue operations. Fifteen of the injured were discharged from the hospital after receiving outpatient treatment.
The incident underscores the risks associated with natural disasters and the challenges faced by rescue teams in their valiant efforts to save lives. (ILKHA)
