Veysel Eroğlu appointed Türkiye’s special representative to Iraq

The Turkish government has named former Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs Veysel Eroğlu as its Special Representative to the Republic of Iraq, according to decisions published on Thursday in the Official Gazette.
Eroğlu, who oversaw Türkiye’s Forestry and Water Affairs portfolio from 2011 to 2018, brings extensive experience in environmental and resource management to his new diplomatic role. As Special Representative, he will lead bilateral engagements with Baghdad on issues ranging from regional security and economic cooperation to water resource sharing and reconstruction efforts.
The appointment underscores Ankara’s commitment to strengthening ties with Iraq amid evolving regional dynamics. Eroğlu is expected to present his credentials in Baghdad in the coming weeks and will operate out of Turkey’s embassy in the Iraqi capital.
The Official Gazette notice did not specify a term length, but Special Representatives traditionally serve at the pleasure of the presidency and ministerial leadership. (ILKHA)
