The Turkish Coast Guard rescued 46 irregular migrants, including 24 children, off the coast of Ayvacık in the Çanakkale province.
The migrants, primarily from Afghanistan, had been pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by Greek authorities.
The rescue operation was carried out by the Turkish Coast Guard North Aegean Group Command teams, responding to distress signals near Ayvacık.
After being brought ashore, the migrants underwent necessary procedures before being transferred to the Ayvacık Migrant Pre-Admission and Referral Centre for further assistance and processing.
Türkiye has repeatedly criticized pushback practices, asserting that they violate international law and endanger migrants' lives. This rescue highlights the ongoing humanitarian and geopolitical challenges in the Aegean region. (ILKHA)
