Turkish opposition lawmaker Hasan Bitmez dies after heart attack
Hasan Bitmez, a 54-year-old member of parliament from Türkiye's opposition Felicity (Saadet) Party, passed away at Ankara City Hospital two days after suffering a heart attack during a parliamentary session.
Bitmez had collapsed while delivering a speech critical of the government's policy towards israel.
A graduate of Cairo’s Al Azhar University, Bitmez was known for his role as the chairman of the Center for Islamic Union Research.
His parliamentary biography reflects a background in working for Islamic non-governmental organizations. Bitmez was married and a father of one.
The incident occurred as he was criticizing President Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling AK Party for continuing trade with israel amid the conflict in Gaza. (ILKHA)
