Türkiye, Hungary strengthen strategic and energy ties in high-level talks
Turkish and Hungarian officials convened this week as part of the ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral relations under the Türkiye-Hungary High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. The discussions reflected a broad commitment to advancing cooperation across multiple sectors, including defense, security, and energy.
The first meeting of the Türkiye-Hungary Joint Consultation Mechanism, scheduled in Istanbul, brought together Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, and National Intelligence Organization (MIT) President İbrahim Kalın.
The gathering aimed to reinforce the institutional framework of bilateral ties, promote strategic partnership, and enhance cooperation in military, security, defense industry, and counterterrorism areas.
Officials exchanged views on regional and global developments, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Gaza, Syria, the Balkans, the South Caucasus, and Africa. Hungary’s constructive role in supporting Türkiye-European Union relations was also acknowledged.
In addition to strategic talks, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar met with Hungarian Energy Minister Csaba Lantos during the 7th session of the Strategic Cooperation Council. The leaders discussed a wide range of projects from natural gas trade and nuclear energy collaboration to joint hydrocarbon investments and renewable energy initiatives.
Bayraktar emphasized the shared determination to strengthen energy supply security through concrete projects, signaling a continued commitment to practical and sustainable cooperation.(ILKHA)
