Van prepares for Mawlid Al Nabi celebration with thousands expected

The city of Van is abuzz with final preparations for the Mawlid Al Nabi event, set to be held Sunday at Cumhuriyet Street City Square.
Organized by the Prophet's Lovers Foundation under the theme “Resistance Leader Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him),” the event is expected to draw tens of thousands at 1:30 p.m.
For days, foundation members and volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure a warm welcome for attendees. The city is adorned with tarpaulins, posters, and banners, while public transport and shop windows display invitations. Nearly 50,000 leaflets were distributed door-to-door, and invitation stands were set up at three central locations. The foundation’s efforts aim to create an unforgettable spiritual atmosphere.
Ahmet Faruk Çevik, the Van coordinator for the Prophet's Lovers Foundation, invited all citizens to join the celebration. “We’ve been preparing for weeks, and now we’re making final touches. City Square is ready, Van is ready, our people are ready,” Çevik said. “We invite everyone after the noon prayer to experience this enthusiasm and spread the love of the Prophet.”
The event will begin with a recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by mawlid recitations. Molla Emrullah Uysal will deliver a speech in Turkish, and Molla Beşir Şimşek, president of the foundation, will speak in Kurdish. A girls’ hymn group and a theatrical performance will also feature, with the event concluding in prayer.
Çevik encouraged those unable to attend to watch the live broadcast on Rehber TV. “The central location makes it accessible, ensuring the city feels the blessing and love of Muhammad,” he added. The event promises to be a vibrant celebration of faith and unity in Van. (ILKHA)
