Turkish parliament speaker holds series of key meetings amid regional diplomatic activity
Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Numan Kurtulmuş held a series of official meetings in parliament on May 11, receiving an Algerian parliamentary delegation and Türkiye’s police chief during a busy day of diplomatic and institutional consultations.
According to statements released through official parliamentary channels, Kurtulmuş met with Messaoud Guesri and the accompanying delegation at his office in a closed-door meeting.
The talks reportedly focused on strengthening parliamentary relations between Türkiye and Algeria and expanding bilateral cooperation.
The meeting came at a time of increasing diplomatic engagement between Ankara and African countries, particularly in areas related to energy cooperation, regional security, trade, and parliamentary diplomacy.
Analysts view Türkiye–Algeria relations as strategically important due to growing cooperation in the Mediterranean region and North Africa.
Later the same day, Kurtulmuş also received Ali Fidan, head of Türkiye’s General Directorate of Security.
Officials described the meeting as a consultation and courtesy visit linked to institutional coordination and security-related matters.
The meeting also drew attention as it took place during a period of heightened regional tensions and ongoing security discussions within Türkiye.
Both meetings were held behind closed doors and were announced through the official social media accounts of the Turkish parliament. (ILKHA)
