Turkish FM Hakan Fidan is set to pay an official visit to Indonesia, where discussions are expected to focus on strengthening strategic cooperation and expanding bilateral trade toward a $10 billion target, according to diplomatic sources.

During the visit, Fidan is expected to hold talks aimed at deepening relations between Ankara and Jakarta across multiple sectors, including defense, energy, infrastructure, and technology. The meetings are also expected to address regional developments and global diplomatic coordination.

Officials indicate that special emphasis will be placed on expanding economic cooperation in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and halal food industries, as both countries seek to diversify trade and investment flows.

Türkiye and Indonesia, two major Muslim-majority economies and influential members of the Global South, have increasingly sought to elevate their partnership in recent years, with both sides describing relations as “strategic.”

The two countries are also expected to review cooperation within multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, G20, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), ASEAN-related dialogue mechanisms, MIKTA, and the Developing-8 (D-8), where both Ankara and Jakarta pursue coordinated positions on global economic and political issues.

Diplomatic observers note that the visit comes amid growing global economic uncertainty and shifting geopolitical alignments, prompting many countries to strengthen South-South cooperation frameworks and diversify strategic partnerships beyond traditional alliances.

Fidan is also expected to raise regional issues during his meetings, including the situation in Gaza and broader Middle East developments, reflecting Türkiye’s continued diplomatic engagement on humanitarian and conflict-related crises.
