10 killed after stone quarry collapse in eastern Rwanda
Ten people were killed after a quarry collapsed in eastern Rwanda, authorities said.
The accident occurred in a sand and stone quarry in Nyamabuye village, Bugesera District, where workers were extracting construction materials.
According to local media, the workers became trapped under debris when the quarry suddenly collapsed.
Rescue teams recovered the bodies of all 10 workers, and authorities said no other people were reported missing.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
Bugesera District Mayor Richard Mutabazi said authorities had suspended all activities at the site following the accident.
Initial reports indicated the quarry was operating without the required authorization. Local officials said inspections of similar quarry sites would be intensified to prevent future accidents. (ILKHA)
