Eight people were killed and 77 others injured in Ukrainian attacks on Russia's Belgorod region over the past 24 hours, Russian regional authorities said on Monday, as cross-border hostilities continued to intensify.
Acting Belgorod Governor Alexander Shuvayev said Ukrainian forces carried out 153 attacks on the border region using multiple-launch rocket systems, artillery and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Shuvayev said five civilians were killed and 23 others wounded after a passenger bus came under attack in the town of Shebekino on Sunday.
Providing an updated assessment of the attacks, the acting governor said the overall death toll had risen to eight, including one child among the injured. He added that 77 people were wounded, with several remaining in critical condition. The figures were released by the Belgorod regional administration and have not been independently verified.
Separately, Russia's Defense Ministry said its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 209 Ukrainian drones over the past day.
The ministry said the drones were shot down over several Russian regions, including areas around Moscow, as well as above the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
Ukraine had not commented on the Russian claims at the time of publication.(ILKHA)
