Afghan Foreign Minister meets Iranian President in Tehran

Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, met with newly elected Iranian President Massoud Pazeshkian on Sunday in Tehran to discuss bilateral cooperation and the situation of Afghan refugees residing in Iran.
The meeting marked a significant step in strengthening ties between the two neighboring countries. President Pazeshkian underscored Iran’s commitment to deepening relations across multiple sectors and reaffirmed the longstanding cultural and historical connections shared by the two nations.
Highlighting the humanitarian dimension of their relationship, President Pazeshkian expressed Iran’s readiness to collaborate on improving conditions for Afghan refugees. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to provide adequate support and facilities for those living in Iran.
Foreign Minister Muttaqi welcomed Iran’s stance and emphasized the importance of enhancing political and economic cooperation. He called for increased trade, joint efforts to combat drug trafficking, and the steady expansion of diplomatic engagement. On the issue of refugees, Muttaqi advocated for a gradual and dignified return process, ensuring the protection of their rights, property, and personal affairs.
