Aoun: Israel’s aggression seeks to undermine Lebanon’s stability

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun strongly condemned the latest Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, describing them as a systematic attempt to weaken national stability and obstruct the country’s economic recovery under false security pretexts.
In a statement carried by several Lebanese and Arab media outlets, Aoun said the repeated Israeli assaults on civilian areas and infrastructure represent a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement reached last year. He noted that Israel’s actions “are not isolated incidents but part of a deliberate policy aimed at destroying Lebanon’s productive sectors, deepening the economic crisis, and spreading instability across the country.”
According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, at least six people were injured in the overnight air raids that targeted several villages near the southern border. Local sources reported significant damage to residential buildings and public facilities, including power and communication lines.
President Aoun emphasized that such aggression “threatens to drag the region into a wider conflict” and urged the international community to take a firm stance against Israel’s continued violations of Lebanese sovereignty. “Lebanon will not remain silent in the face of these acts of hostility that flagrantly disregard international law and humanitarian principles,” he added.
The attacks come amid escalating tensions along the Lebanese-Israeli border, where Israeli forces have intensified aerial and artillery bombardments over the past weeks, citing security concerns. Lebanese political observers warn that Tel Aviv is seeking to divert attention from its failures in Gaza by opening new fronts in neighboring countries.
Regional media such as Al Jazeera Arabic, Al Arabiya, Sky News Arabia, and Al Mayadeen reported similar reactions, highlighting Beirut’s growing frustration over the international community’s silence toward repeated Israeli violations.
Aoun reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to peace and stability but underlined that the country “reserves the right to defend its people and sovereignty against any external aggression.”(ILKHA)
