At least 12 people shot near street festival in Toledo, Ohio, authorities say
Authorities are searching for suspects after at least 12 people were shot near a popular street festival in Toledo, Ohio, in an incident police say may have involved an exchange of gunfire between two individuals.
The shooting occurred near the Old West End Festival on Saturday at approximately 17:37 local time (21:37 GMT), according to the Toledo Police Department. Officers responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Robinwood Avenue, an area associated with festival music and food events.
Police confirmed that 10 victims are in stable condition, while two others remain in critical condition. The victims range in age from 16 to 61, authorities said. Earlier statements from Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz indicated that all of the injured were expected to survive.
Deputy Police Chief Joe stated that preliminary findings suggest two individuals were involved in the shooting, appearing to fire at one another in what investigators believe may have been a targeted exchange that endangered bystanders.
Footage circulating on social media appears to show festivalgoers fleeing in panic as multiple gunshots are heard in rapid succession, with crowds scattering from the area.
Law enforcement agencies have secured the scene and are continuing to collect evidence, interview witnesses, and analyze video recordings as part of the ongoing investigation. Police have not yet announced any arrests, and the suspects remain at large.
The Old West End Festival, which draws large crowds each year, describes itself as a celebration of one of the country’s largest historic districts, featuring live music, food vendors, house tours, and community events. The shooting disrupted festivities and prompted a rapid emergency response from local authorities.
As of the latest updates from officials, the investigation remains active, with police focusing on identifying the shooters and determining the full circumstances that led to the violence. Increased police presence is expected in the area as investigators continue their work.
Authorities are urging anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward as they work to reconstruct the timeline of the shooting and prevent further violence. (ILKHA)
