At least seven people were killed and one remains missing after an inflatable boat exploded off the coast of Liaoning Province in northeastern China, local authorities said.
The accident occurred near Mopanshan Island, off the city of Xingcheng, while 13 people were on board. Rescue teams recovered seven bodies from the water and continued searching for the missing passenger. Five survivors were taken to hospital, where two were reported to be in serious condition. Investigators believe the explosion may have been caused by a fuel leak.
Authorities said the blast occurred after the boat operator attempted to restart the engine during the return journey, causing fuel vapors to ignite. Authorıtıes said that the passengers were local residents returning after collecting sea snails during low tide, a common seasonal activity in the area.
Emergency crews, including maritime rescue teams, police officers and medical personnel, were deployed to the scene shortly after the incident. Officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion. (ILKHA)
