Australia: Light aircraft crashes on Sydney golf course, two escape serious injury

Two people escaped serious injury after a light aircraft crash-landed on a golf course in Sydney’s northern beaches on Sunday afternoon.
The forced landing occurred during a training flight shortly after 2:00 p.m., with a flight instructor and a student on board. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) confirmed the aircraft involved was a Piper Cherokee.
Aerial footage of the site showed the plane resting on the Mona Vale Golf Club course, with visible damage to one wing and the wheels reportedly detached.
NSW Ambulance reported that both individuals, aged in their 50s, were treated onsite for minor injuries before being transported to Royal North Shore Hospital for further assessment. One of the occupants sustained minor facial injuries, while both were otherwise in stable condition.
Authorities stated that the cause of the crash is still under investigation, though initial reports suggest it may have been related to possible engine trouble.
Golf club staff and nearby witnesses praised the quick response of emergency personnel, noting that the incident could have been far more serious under different circumstances.
The ATSB has launched a formal investigation into the crash to determine the precise factors that led to the emergency landing. (ILKHA)
