China launches Haiyang-2E ocean observation satellite
China on Thursday successfully launched the Haiyang-2E ocean observation satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, marking another step in expanding the country's marine monitoring capabilities.
The satellite was carried into its planned orbit aboard a Long March-4B carrier rocket.
According to Chinese authorities, Haiyang-2E will be used to monitor the dynamic marine environment by collecting data on ocean winds, waves, sea surface conditions and other marine observations.
The satellite will support marine forecasting, disaster prevention and mitigation, climate research, navigation safety and the sustainable management of marine resources.
The mission also marked the 654th flight of China's Long March carrier rocket series, one of the country's primary launch vehicle families.(ILKHA)
