Tech mogul Elon Musk has unveiled the "America Party," a new political faction aimed at disrupting the U.S.'s entrenched two-party system.

The announcement, made Saturday via Musk’s social media platform X, escalates his public feud with former President Donald Trump.

In his post, Musk declared, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” He criticized the current system, stating, “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

The move follows a falling-out between Musk and Trump, former allies who parted ways after Musk resigned as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in May. Tensions flared over Trump’s recent tax and spending legislation, signed this week, which is projected to add $3 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade. The bill, which excludes green energy incentives vital to Musk’s Tesla, drew sharp criticism from the billionaire.

Trump retaliated on Truth Social, accusing Musk of depending on government subsidies and suggesting Tesla’s survival hinges on them. “Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far,” Trump wrote.

The America Party has not yet been registered with the Federal Election Commission, and details about its leadership or candidates remain undisclosed. Musk, ineligible to run for president due to his South African citizenship, has not indicated who might lead the party’s ticket.

While third parties have historically struggled in U.S. elections, Musk’s wealth, influence, and control of X could give the America Party a unique edge. However, analysts remain doubtful, citing the failure of recent third-party efforts to challenge the Republican-Democratic dominance.
