Five dead in Sudan gold mine collapse

At least five miners were killed and five others injured when a shaft at a gold mine in Sudan’s eastern Gadarif State collapsed.
According to local sources, the collapse occurred in a gold mine located in the Butana district in Gadarif province in the east of the country.
At least five miners were killed and five others injured in the incident, officials said.
The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Sudan is the third largest producer of gold in Africa.
The Sudan Gold Refinery Company, with full ownership rights vested with the Central Bank of Sudan, the Ministry of Minerals, and the Ministry of Finance and Natural Economy, produces gold in the range of 270 to 360 tons. (ILKHA)
