'Freedom for Palestine' march concludes with rally in Germany's Mannheim
A "Freedom for Palestine" march that began in Ludwigshafen, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, concluded with a rally in the neighboring city of Mannheim in Baden-Württemberg, where participants called for an end to the war in Gaza and greater international action.
Throughout the march, participants carried Palestinian flags and chanted slogans expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemning the ongoing attacks on Gaza.
Addressing the rally, organizer Selma claimed that what she described as a genocide in Palestine has continued for 1,000 days.
She criticized those who, in her words, speak about human rights while remaining silent on Palestine, describing them as "accomplices." Selma also argued that the declared ceasefire had not brought an end to the violence, saying Palestinians continue to be killed despite ceasefire announcements.
She further called on Germany to end its support for what she referred to as Zionism and concluded her speech by telling participants: "Choose your side — truth or falsehood."
In another part of her address, Selma argued that Germany had become a party to the conflict through its support for Israel, saying this was why demonstrators had taken to the streets. She urged the people of Mannheim to choose between, in her words, "the side of justice or the side of genocide."
During the rally, organizers also shared an update on Freedom Flotilla activist Engin Doğan, stating that he had come under fire three times and had been wounded twice. They said surgery is currently not possible because of his medical condition and that his recovery could take up to six months.
The demonstration concluded with renewed calls for freedom for Palestine and for the international community to assume greater responsibility regarding the situation in Gaza. Participants continued chanting slogans throughout the march and rally. (ILKHA)
