Gaza death toll rises to 72,117 since Oct. 7th
Health authorities in the Gaza Strip report that the death toll from the ongoing conflict has risen to 72,117, with 171,801 others wounded since the start of hostilities on October 7, 2023.
Officials say the figures reflect the cumulative impact of sustained military operations and limited access to medical services.
Medical sources confirmed on Wednesday that at least one person was killed and three others wounded in incidents over the past 24 hours. Rescue teams continue to face significant obstacles in reaching areas where victims are believed to remain trapped under rubble or in locations inaccessible due to security conditions.
Authorities further reported that since a ceasefire period began on October 11, the number of fatalities has increased by 633, bringing the post-ceasefire death toll to that level. In the same period, 1,703 additional people have been injured, and 753 bodies have been recovered, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian challenges and delayed recovery operations.
The conflict between the forces involved and Israel has generated widespread international concern over civilian casualties and humanitarian access. Aid organizations have repeatedly called for improved access for medical and rescue teams, noting that the inability to reach affected areas may result in additional unreported casualties.
Efforts to broker a lasting ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian relief remain ongoing, though negotiations have faced repeated setbacks amid continued hostilities. (ILKHA)
