Gaza Health Ministry: Returned bodies reveal evidence of Israeli torture

The latest handover of Palestinian martyrs’ bodies by the Israeli occupation regime has once again exposed horrifying evidence of war crimes and inhumane treatment, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Officials say many of the bodies returned through the Red Cross bore unmistakable signs of torture, execution, and mutilation — a grim reflection of the brutality Palestinians continue to endure under occupation.
Dr. Mohammed Zeggut, Director-General of Hospitals at Gaza’s Health Ministry, confirmed that a total of 120 bodies were received from the occupation forces in three separate batches over recent days. “Most of them are still unidentified,” he said, noting that many of the martyrs bore the marks of severe torture, burns, and close-range gunshot wounds.
“Some bodies had clear tread marks from Israeli tanks, while others were found with their hands and feet tied by plastic restraints,” Dr. Zeggut revealed. “These are not the wounds of battle — they are the evidence of execution and abuse.”
With Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure devastated by months of bombing and blockade, hospitals are struggling to preserve the corpses. Dr. Zeggut explained that morgues can only hold the bodies for about a week before burial becomes necessary due to lack of refrigeration capacity.
He also criticized Israel’s refusal to cooperate in the identification process, stating that the regime shared examination results for only three of the returned bodies. “The occupying power deliberately withholds information to deepen the suffering of Palestinian families searching for their loved ones,” he said.
The Health Ministry has released photos of personal belongings recovered from the bodies — including jewelry, watches, and clothing — urging relatives to come forward if they recognize any items to help identify the martyrs.
Dr. Munir al-Bir, another senior official at the Ministry, confirmed that medical examinations leave “no doubt” about the circumstances of death. “The bodies show clear signs of torture — they were restrained, beaten, and killed in captivity. These are deliberate executions, not combat casualties,” he said.
Human rights observers have long accused the Israeli regime of committing atrocities against Palestinian detainees and civilians, including extrajudicial killings and systematic torture. The latest evidence, experts say, reinforces calls for international accountability and independent investigation into Israeli war crimes in Gaza.
Palestinian officials have demanded that international organizations, including the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the UN Human Rights Council, immediately launch inquiries into the killings and press Israel to release all information on detained and disappeared Palestinians.
“The world must not remain silent,” Dr. Zeggut declared. “These bodies are proof of Israel’s crimes — every wound tells the story of a martyr who suffered at the hands of occupation. Justice demands that their voices be heard, and their killers be held accountable.” (ILKHA)
