German parliament approves €50 billion arms procurement package
Germany’s Federal Parliament has approved a massive arms procurement package worth nearly 50 billion euros, marking one of the country’s largest defense investment decisions in recent decades.
The Bundestag’s Budget Committee endorsed around 30 military procurement projects aimed at the comprehensive modernization of the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr), according to official statements.
The approved projects cover a wide range of capabilities, from ground forces to air defense systems. One of the largest portions of the package includes the procurement of uniforms and personal protective equipment for German soldiers, with planned orders amounting to approximately 21 billion euros.
Among the major acquisitions is the purchase of 200 Puma armored fighting vehicles, valued at around 4 billion euros. The parliament also approved contracts related to missile procurement for the “Arrow 3” air defense system, a key element of Germany’s future air and missile defense architecture.
The German government stated that the extensive defense investments are intended to strengthen the Bundeswehr’s deterrence capabilities in the face of growing security threats, particularly those linked to Russia.
Officials emphasized that the modernization program is part of broader efforts to enhance Germany’s military readiness and fulfill its commitments within NATO and European security frameworks. (ILKHA)
