Germany will deliver two additional Patriot air-defense systems to Ukraine in the coming days as part of a coordinated agreement with the United States, Bloomberg reported on Friday.

The move follows one of the largest Russian missile and drone assaults on Kyiv since the start of the war.

Under the arrangement, Germany will provide the Patriots from its military stockpiles, while the US, under President Donald Trump’s administration, will replace the systems with new units from American industry.

The decision comes in direct response to Thursday’s large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine’s capital, which killed at least 31 people, including five children, and injured 159 others, among them 16 children, according to Ukrainian officials. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called the strike one of the most devastating in recent months.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has urged Trump to continue American military assistance to Ukraine, while acknowledging Trump’s repeated calls for European allies to carry more of the financial burden. Trump has signaled readiness to maintain support but insists European states must increase commitments.

Alongside the two launchers, Germany announced plans to send additional Patriot system components over the next two to three months to expand the coverage and effectiveness of Ukraine’s air defenses.

As part of the deal, Germany will also become the first country to receive the latest-generation Patriot systems from the US Department of Defense, with Berlin financing the procurement—highlighting its deepening role in Ukraine’s defense efforts.

Separately, two Republican senators, Roger Wicker and Jim Risch, have introduced legislation to create a new fund for expanding military aid to Ukraine. Known as the PEACE Act, the proposal would allow contributions from US allies to finance arms replenishment, enabling continued shipments to Ukraine without impacting US readiness. The fund could receive $5–8 billion annually, with Germany and the UK expected to be primary contributors.

Meanwhile, on July 14, President Trump warned that the US would impose 100% tariffs on Russian imports and introduce penalties on countries purchasing Russian oil if a ceasefire is not reached between Moscow and Kyiv. (ILKHA)
