Global Sumud Flotilla’s flagship Alma targeted in second attack

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), a humanitarian mission delivering life-saving aid to Palestinians in Gaza, has once again come under attack.
In a brazen act of aggression late Tuesday night, the flotilla’s flagship vessel, the Alma, was struck by a drone in Tunisian waters.
The British-flagged ship sustained fire damage to its top deck, but the courageous crew quickly extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported. This incident follows just 24 hours after another flotilla vessel docked in Tunisia was hit by an incendiary projectile, confirmed by security cameras.
Flotilla organizers condemned the attacks as part of a deliberate campaign to sabotage their humanitarian mission, which aims to break the Zionist regime’s illegal 17-year blockade of Gaza.
“These repeated assaults come amid intensified Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza,” the organizers stated.
“They are an orchestrated effort to derail our humanitarian mission — but our campaign continues undeterred, with unwavering resolve and steadfastness.”
The Global Sumud Flotilla, which set sail from Barcelona on August 31, consists of more than 50 ships carrying food, medicine, and essential supplies. On board are activists and human rights defenders from 44 countries, uniting to confront what they describe as one of the most brutal blockades in modern history.
The attacks have drawn sharp rebuke from United Nations human rights experts, who reiterated that Gaza remains occupied territory under international law and that the blockade amounts to collective punishment — a war crime.
The experts condemned recent threats from Zionist officials, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who reportedly called for detaining flotilla participants under harsh prison conditions and seizing their vessels. Such measures, they warned, would constitute “intimidation, reprisals, and collective punishment against human rights defenders.”
“Any attempt to block the flotilla would constitute a grave violation of international law and humanitarian principles,” the UN experts declared.
“States must make clear that they will not tolerate Israel blocking humanitarian aid to a population facing starvation and genocide.”
For nearly two decades, Gaza’s 2.3 million residents have been trapped under an illegal siege that deprives them of food, medicine, clean water, and basic freedoms. The result has been widespread malnutrition, collapsing healthcare, and what international organizations now describe as a genocide unfolding in real time.
Organizers of the flotilla say the international community’s failure to end the blockade has only strengthened their determination to act. Additional ships are expected to depart from Tunisia this week to join the mission, despite mounting threats and sabotage attempts.
The Global Sumud Flotilla is more than an aid convoy — it is a symbol of defiance and solidarity with the Palestinian people. By sailing against Israel’s blockade, the participants hope to expose global complicity in the siege and amplify the urgent call for justice, dignity, and freedom for Gaza.
“No matter how many attacks we face, our mission continues,” the organizers affirmed.
“The world’s conscience sails with us — and with the people of Gaza — until the blockade is broken.” (ILKHA)
