Greek port workers refuse to unload military steel bound for Israel

Dockworkers at Greece’s largest port have announced their refusal to unload a cargo ship reportedly carrying military-grade steel bound for Israel, citing ethical objections and solidarity with civilians in Gaza.
The Container Handling Workers' Union at Piraeus Port has taken a firm stance against the unloading of the vessel Ever Golden, which is scheduled to dock at the port on July 14 at 7:30 AM. The cargo in question is believed to consist of steel with potential military applications.
In a public statement, the union labeled the shipment as "lethal," warning that the materials could be used by the Israeli military in ongoing attacks against Palestinian civilians in the besieged Gaza Strip.
"This is not ordinary cargo. It is part of the machinery of war. We will not be complicit in the bloodshed of innocent people," the union declared, urging other labor and civil society groups to stand in solidarity.
The union has also called for a mass mobilization and public protest at the port, scheduled for 6:30 AM on the morning of the ship’s arrival, in a bid to physically block the unloading process.
The action comes amid increasing international outcry over Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza, which has drawn criticism for its high civilian death toll and widespread destruction. Greek workers and activists have been among those vocally supporting the Palestinian cause in recent months, staging demonstrations and demanding an end to arms transfers that could fuel the conflict.
As of now, Greek authorities have not issued an official response regarding the dockworkers' announcement or the cargo’s final destination.
The protest at Piraeus is expected to draw considerable attention and could set a precedent for similar actions in European ports amid growing calls to halt military shipments to Israel. (ILKHA)
