Hamas accepts Trump’s proposal to end Israeli genocide in Gaza

Hamas Movement announced on Friday evening its acceptance of the US proposal presented by President Donald Trump, which calls for a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the besieged Strip and the release of all Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
In a statement, Hamas affirmed that it agreed “to release all Israeli prisoners, both living and dead, according to the exchange formula outlined in Trump’s proposal, provided the necessary field conditions are secured.”
The Movement underscored its readiness to enter immediate negotiations through mediators — Qatar, Egypt, and the United States — to finalize details of the agreement. Hamas highlighted that its position came after broad consultations with Palestinian factions, political forces, and mediators, reflecting a unified stance that protects the Palestinian people’s sacrifices and rights.
Hamas expressed appreciation for the efforts of Arab, Islamic, and international actors, as well as the mediation role played by President Trump, which it said could pave the way to ending the genocidal war on Gaza, ensuring the exchange of prisoners, and allowing urgent humanitarian aid into the devastated enclave.
The Movement also reiterated its approval to transfer Gaza’s administration to a Palestinian technocratic body based on national consensus, with the backing of Arab and Islamic countries, to safeguard the Strip from further occupation interference. Hamas stressed that any points relating to Gaza’s future and the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights must be addressed within the framework of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
Both Egypt and Qatar welcomed Hamas’s response, describing it as a constructive step toward halting bloodshed and achieving Palestinian unity.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Hamas’s acceptance of the proposal “represents a positive step that can be built upon to achieve de-escalation and create the environment for a comprehensive political settlement that would end the suffering of the Palestinian people and realize their dream of an independent state.”
Cairo underscored the importance of honoring the ceasefire, ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid, and facilitating the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes. It also stressed that reconstruction must begin immediately, with Egypt pledging to work alongside Arab states, the US, and European countries to secure a permanent ceasefire.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry likewise praised Hamas’s response. Spokesman Majed al-Ansari said Doha supports the Movement’s readiness to release the captives as part of a broader framework to stop the bloodshed in Gaza and achieve lasting peace. He emphasized that Qatar is coordinating closely with Egypt and the US to advance negotiations.
In a striking shift, US President Donald Trump welcomed Hamas’s response, writing on social media: “Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the hostages out safely and quickly. Based on the statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting Peace.”
Trump added that discussions are already underway to work out the details, stressing that the moment could open the path for “long sought peace in the Middle East.”
Hamas’s acceptance of the US proposal comes amid catastrophic conditions in Gaza, where months of Israeli bombardment and siege have killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, mostly women and children, and displaced the majority of the population. The Movement’s statement is being viewed across the region as a decisive and responsible step aimed at protecting the Palestinian people, securing their rights, and ending Israel’s devastating war.
Observers say that if Israel agrees to Trump’s call to halt its aggression and withdraw its forces, this development could mark the beginning of a new political chapter — one shaped by Palestinian unity, regional consensus, and the steadfastness of the Palestinian resistance in the face of genocide and occupation.
