A senior Hamas delegation, led by Mohammad Ismail Darwish, head of Hamas’s leadership council, met with top Iranian officials in Tehran on Sunday.
The meeting included discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Revolutionary Guards Commander Hossein Salami.
During the session, the Hamas delegation briefed the Iranian officials on field developments in the Gaza Strip, focusing on the implementation of the ceasefire agreement following the “Al-Aqsa Flood” battle. The discussion also covered the situation in the West Bank, Occupied Jerusalem, and conditions in Israeli prisons.
In his remarks, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi expressed deep appreciation for the resilience and resistance of the Palestinian people, praising what he described as their "legendary performance" during the 15-month period of conflict. He reiterated Iran’s total support for the Palestinian cause in all fields and stressed the need for international efforts to prosecute Israeli war criminals in every forum.
Araghchi further noted that he has been in contact with foreign ministers from regional countries including Türkiye, Tunisia, Egypt, and Pakistan. These discussions aim to find ways to counter U.S. President Donald Trump’s displacement plan, which has further inflamed regional tensions.
The meeting comes on the heels of a ceasefire that took effect in Gaza on January 19, a move that halted what has been described as Israel’s genocidal campaign—an assault that has reportedly claimed the lives of more than 47,500 Palestinians, the majority of whom were women and children, and left the enclave in ruins.
The delegation’s visit underscores the ongoing regional cooperation among like-minded states and groups in support of the Palestinian cause, as well as a shared determination to challenge policies perceived as exacerbating the conflict in the Middle East. Further details on the outcomes of the meeting have yet to be released. (ILKHA)
