Hamas official: Israel turning to political and media warfare after failing in Gaza
Senior Hamas official Ali Baraka has warned that the Israeli occupation regime, having failed to achieve its objectives on the battlefield in Gaza, is increasingly turning to political, media, and diplomatic warfare in an attempt to compensate for its military setbacks.
In remarks shared on social media on Tuesday, Baraka said Israel’s inability to defeat the Palestinian resistance has pushed it to intensify what he described as “soft power” tactics, particularly through political pressure and propaganda campaigns in Western capitals and via the United States.
“The occupation’s failure on the ground is driving it to escalate political and propaganda pressure, especially in the Western arena and through Washington, in an effort to ease or break its growing political isolation under conditions that serve its own agenda,” Baraka stated.
According to Baraka, Israel is deliberately seeking to move the confrontation away from the battlefield and into political, media, and diplomatic spheres. He said the aim is to influence international and regional positions, distort the image of the Palestinian resistance, and impose the Israeli narrative surrounding the war on Gaza.
Baraka emphasized that this strategy is designed to legitimize Israel’s actions and obscure what he described as the genocidal nature of the ongoing assault on the Gaza Strip, while deflecting attention from Israel’s military failures and the resilience of the resistance.
He also pointed to recent statements by senior Hamas leader Khaled Mishaal, saying they form part of a calculated effort to dismantle Israel’s narrative surrounding Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” and the broader war on Gaza. Baraka noted that Hamas is actively engaging influential Western circles to present the Palestinian perspective and expose the realities on the ground.
“The Movement takes advantage of every viable opportunity to push the US administration toward reconsidering its stance,” Baraka said, adding that Hamas’s political messaging is aimed at countering misinformation and highlighting the legitimacy of Palestinian resistance.
Baraka stressed that Hamas’s positions are rooted in what he described as a “shrewd reading of the balance of power,” while remaining firmly committed to Palestinian national principles. He reaffirmed the Movement’s rejection of any political arrangements or settlements that undermine the rights of the Palestinian people or compromise their struggle for freedom, dignity, and self-determination.
His comments come amid growing international scrutiny of Israel’s actions in Gaza, mounting criticism from human rights organizations, and increasing pressure on Western governments over their continued political and military support for the occupation regime. (ILKHA)
