Hamas open to international forces in Gaza to protect civilians
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem announced that the Palestinian resistance movement is open to the presence of international forces in the Gaza Strip, provided such forces serve a clear humanitarian and stabilizing role centered on protecting civilians and ending the cycle of violence imposed on the besieged population.
Qassem stated that any international presence must be strictly conditioned on two essential principles: guaranteeing the safety and protection of Palestinian civilians and contributing to the creation of a serious and sustainable framework for lasting stability in Gaza.
He stressed that this position reflects Hamas’ responsibility toward the Palestinian people, particularly as Gaza continues to endure unprecedented suffering as a result of ongoing Israeli aggression, blockade, and systematic destruction of civilian life and infrastructure.
Qassem reaffirmed that Hamas remains fully committed to implementing the first phase of the ceasefire agreement and is prepared to move forward with the second phase without delay. He described this readiness as part of a broader Palestinian commitment to securing calm, alleviating humanitarian suffering, and opening the door to a genuine political process based on justice and the rights of the Palestinian people.
Palestinian observers said the statement represents a significant signal of flexibility aimed at protecting Gaza’s population while underscoring that any international role must be rooted in respect for Palestinian sovereignty, dignity, and legitimate national rights, rather than serving as a cover for occupation or external control.
