Humanitarian groups deliver lifesaving aid to displaced families in war-torn Sudan
Civil society organizations continue to deliver humanitarian assistance across Sudan as the country grapples with an internal war and humanitarian crisis that has persisted for more than two years, leaving millions displaced and in urgent need of aid.
As conditions deteriorate nationwide, millions of Sudanese have been forced to flee their homes. Hundreds of thousands who escaped violence in El Fasher and Khartoum are now struggling to survive in tent camps set up in relatively safer areas such as Port Sudan, where access to basic necessities remains limited and living conditions are extremely harsh.
In response to the worsening crisis, several humanitarian organizations — including Umut Kervanı (Hope Caravan Foundation), Avrupa Yetim Eli (European Orphan Hand), Yetimler Vakfı (Orphans Foundation), and IHO Ebrar — dispatched aid teams to the region. The groups distributed blankets, one of the most urgently needed items for displaced families living in tents amid cold weather conditions.
Speaking on the ground, Erdal Elibüyük, Deputy Chairman of Umut Kervanı, said humanitarian efforts in Sudan were continuing without interruption.
“Our work in Sudan is ongoing,” Elibüyük said. “We are currently in the El Fasher Camp area, where families who were forced to flee clashes in Sudan’s interior regions have taken refuge. By distributing blankets to needy families here, we hope to provide at least some relief under these difficult conditions.”
Nizamettin Aygan, a representative of European Orphan Hand, also drew attention to the dire living conditions in displacement camps and emphasized that aid efforts extend beyond emergency relief.
“As a humanitarian organization, our assistance in Sudan continues without pause,” Aygan said. “Today, we are delivering blankets to hundreds of families. However, our work is not limited to blanket distribution. We aim to continue our aid programs through tent support, food assistance, cash aid, and the provision of hot meals.”
Aygan warned that the humanitarian situation has reached critical levels, stressing that the region now needs the support of donors more than ever as displacement, poverty, and insecurity continue to intensify. (ILKHA)
