India: Couple trampled to death by wild elephant in Kerala

A couple was tragically trampled to death by a wild elephant at Aralam Farm in Kannur on Sunday evening.
According to reports, the elephant attacked the couple while they were collecting cashew nuts from the farm. Aralam Farm, a 1,500-hectare government-owned plantation, is managed by Aralam Farming Corporation (Kerala) Limited, under the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes Development Department.
Originally established in 1970 with Soviet assistance, the farm was later transferred to the Government of Kerala in 2004. Half of the land is designated for landless tribal families, while the remaining portion continues to function as a farm supporting their welfare.
The latest tragedy adds to the increasing number of fatal elephant attacks in Kerala in recent weeks. In response, Forest Minister AK Saseendran has called for an all-party meeting on Monday to discuss the situation and explore possible solutions.
Several recent elephant attacks have raised serious concerns over the growing human-animal conflict in the state. (ILKHA)
