Iran condemns ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza, accuses global powers of complicity
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the continued killing of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, denouncing what it described as an ongoing genocide carried out through relentless bombardment and the deliberate obstruction of humanitarian aid.
Speaking on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the sustained Israeli attacks on Gaza, coupled with restrictions on the entry of food, medicine, and other humanitarian assistance, constitute grave crimes under international law. He stressed that these actions require immediate and effective intervention by the international community and the United Nations.
Baghaei emphasized that international institutions bear a legal and moral responsibility to halt what he described as war crimes and genocide, and to ensure accountability for those responsible. He said continued inaction risks further undermining the credibility of international law and multilateral mechanisms designed to protect civilians.
Referring to a recent United Nations General Assembly resolution linked to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Baghaei noted that the resolution reaffirms the obligation of all states, under Common Article 1 of the 1949 Geneva Conventions, to ensure respect for international humanitarian law in all circumstances.
He strongly condemned what he called the Israeli regime’s repeated and flagrant violations of humanitarian law, including war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide, and underscored the urgent need to end Israel’s “impunity” for such actions.
The Iranian official also accused the United States and other military and political supporters of Israel of being complicit in the genocide of Palestinians and in crimes committed not only in the occupied Palestinian territories but also in Lebanon and Syria.
Baghaei added that despite publicly declared ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon, Israel has continued its military operations with full US backing and amid what he described as the indifference of ceasefire guarantors. He said Israeli forces continue to carry out attacks and acts of violence across Palestinian territories and in Lebanon, further destabilizing the region.
Iran has repeatedly called for urgent international action to stop the war on Gaza, lift restrictions on humanitarian aid, and hold Israeli leaders and their supporters accountable under international law. (ILKHA)
