Iran slams US violations of memorandum, vows to defend national sovereignty
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has strongly condemned the United States for the repeated violations of the memorandum signed between Tehran and Washington, declaring that the age of American intimidation and coercive policies has come to an end.
In a message posted on X, Ghalibaf accused the United States of breaching multiple provisions of the agreement through continued interference in Iran's sovereign affairs, including attempts to influence developments related to the Strait of Hormuz, threats of further military aggression, the reimposition of sanctions on Iranian oil exports, attacks on southern Iran, and unwavering support for the Israeli occupation's assaults on Lebanon.
"The era of bullying and extortion is over. It leads nowhere. We don't fold," Ghalibaf wrote, reaffirming Iran's determination to defend its sovereignty and national interests against external pressure.
Tehran denounces US aggression against Iran
Ghalibaf's remarks came amid heightened tensions after the United States launched military strikes against southern Iran, an act Tehran has condemned as a blatant violation of international law and Iran's territorial integrity.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) acknowledged carrying out a series of attacks on Iranian targets, while Iranian media reported multiple explosions near Bandar Abbas, Qeshm, and Sirik.
According to Iran's national broadcaster IRIB, strikes in Sirik targeted civilian infrastructure, including a commercial pier and a fishing port, leaving several civilians wounded by shrapnel and raising concerns over Washington's disregard for civilian lives.
In response to the attacks, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its air defense units successfully shot down a US MQ-9 reconnaissance drone over Khormoj in Bushehr Province after it attempted to operate in Iranian airspace.
Iran rejects foreign interference in the Strait of Hormuz
Iranian officials have reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz remains an integral part of the country's national security and warned that no foreign power will be allowed to dictate Tehran's policies in the strategically vital waterway.
Officials stressed that Iran will continue exercising its sovereign rights while safeguarding regional security against outside interference.
Tehran condemns renewed US sanctions
Ghalibaf also criticized Washington's decision to reinstate sanctions on Iranian oil exports, describing the move as yet another violation of the memorandum signed between the two countries.
Earlier, Iran's Foreign Ministry denounced the US decision to revoke the temporary suspension of sanctions on Iranian oil sales, stating that the measure violated Article 10 of the Islamabad Memorandum reached on June 28.
The ministry emphasized that Iran had fully honored its commitments under the agreement, while accusing Washington of once again demonstrating bad faith and proving itself to be an unreliable negotiating partner.
Tehran warned that the United States would bear full responsibility for the consequences of violating the memorandum, stressing that the Islamic Republic would adopt all necessary measures to protect its national interests, sovereignty, and security in the face of continued American pressure.
