Iranian FM holds key talks with regional powers to advance US-Iran peace deal
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held intensive diplomatic engagements on Monday, briefing key counterparts on the landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently reached between Iran and the United States to end the war.
In separate phone calls, Minister Araghchi updated the foreign ministers of Turkey, Iraq, Egypt, Japan, and Saudi Arabia on the contents of the agreement, underscoring Iran’s commitment to constructive diplomacy and full implementation of the deal.
Araghchi firmly emphasized the United States’ responsibility in ensuring the agreement’s success and demanded an immediate and complete halt to Israel’s aggressions and destabilizing attacks against Lebanon and the broader region.
During the conversations, the Iranian foreign minister and his counterparts stressed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation to safeguard regional peace and stability. All sides expressed support for sustained diplomatic efforts to prevent provocations that could undermine the hard-won agreement.
In his call with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, Araghchi voiced optimism that the MoU would open a new chapter of enhanced economic cooperation, trade, and joint investments between Iran and Japan.
Araghchi thanked Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud for Riyadh’s positive role in the diplomatic process and its contributions to regional de-escalation. He also expressed appreciation to Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty for Egypt’s supportive efforts in achieving the agreement, hoping Cairo would continue backing its successful implementation.
Foreign Minister Abdelatty welcomed the US-Iran agreement, describing it as a potential turning point for restoring security and stability across the region. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan similarly expressed hope for positive outcomes from follow-up steps and pledged Türkiye’s continued support for peace while warning against any attempts to sabotage the deal.
The MoU between Iran and the United States was finalized early Monday following weeks of negotiations, with Iran, the US, and Pakistan announcing that the official signing ceremony will take place in Switzerland on Friday.
The agreement comes after Israel and the United States launched unprovoked joint attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities on February 28. Iran responded with measured and proportionate defensive operations, including missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli and American military assets in the region.
Iran has consistently demonstrated its readiness for diplomacy and peace while firmly defending its sovereignty and legitimate rights against foreign aggression. The successful conclusion of the MoU marks a significant diplomatic achievement for Tehran in reducing tensions and paving the way for greater regional stability. (ILKHA)
