Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said two oil tankers exploded in the Strait of Hormuz after deviating from designated shipping routes.
In a statement, the IRGC claimed the vessels exploded while attempting to transit through what it described as an unsafe route under pressure from the United States.
The statement did not provide details on the cause of the explosions or report any casualties.
The IRGC warned that routes outside those designated by Iran would not be safe for maritime traffic in the strategic waterway.
The incident comes after the IRGC Navy announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, citing security concerns stemming from what it described as foreign interference in the region. (ILKHA)
