IRGC Navy launches "Eghtedar" military drill in Persian Gulf
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy commenced a major military exercise, named "Eghtedar" (Authority), in the Persian Gulf on Thursday, Iranian officials announced.
According to IRGC statements, the exercise is designed to demonstrate the naval force’s "readiness, resilience, and commitment to confronting any potential threat."
Officials emphasized that the maneuvers underscore full intelligence and situational awareness across the strategic maritime zone. The Persian Gulf, a vital corridor for global energy supplies, has frequently been the site of heightened military activity and regional tensions.
In official communications, the IRGC framed the exercise as a showcase of "the courage and defensive preparedness of Iran’s naval forces." The drills are also portrayed as part of continuous efforts to bolster Iran's deterrence and operational capabilities in its coastal waters.
The "Eghtedar" exercise occurs amidst a persistent backdrop of regional friction. Iran has historically conducted such drills to assert its defensive posture and project military strength in the region. Analysts note these exercises often involve testing domestic naval equipment, missile systems, and asymmetric warfare tactics characteristic of the IRGC's naval doctrine.
There was no immediate report on the specific scale, duration, or types of weaponry involved in the ongoing drills. Typically, neighboring Gulf states and international maritime forces monitor such exercises closely due to the waterway's sensitivity. (ILKHA)
