Israel bombs Sanaa’s main power station, cutting electricity to Yemeni capital

At dawn on Sunday, the Israeli Navy carried out a direct strike on the Haziz power station in Sanaa, plunging large parts of the Yemeni capital into darkness and marking a new stage of aggression targeting vital civilian infrastructure.
According to local sources, multiple explosions struck the facility, disabling its main generators and cutting electricity to wide areas of the city. A Yemeni Civil Defense source confirmed that the attack had “severely disrupted power supplies, causing hardship for hundreds of thousands of residents.”
The attack on Sanaa’s electricity grid is the latest in a series of Israeli, U.S., and British assaults on Yemen’s service facilities and infrastructure, which have already claimed civilian lives, including women and children.
Hazem al-Assad, a senior member of Ansar Allah’s Political Bureau, denounced the strike as proof of Israel’s moral and political bankruptcy: “The bankrupt enemy targets nothing but service facilities. By striking electricity stations, Israel seeks to break Yemen’s will — but this aggression only strengthens our resolve.”
He accused the Israeli regime of deliberately waging war on civilian life in order to weaken Yemen’s resilience, adding that such crimes would not deter Yemenis from their commitment to resist.
The assault on Sanaa comes as Yemen’s Armed Forces intensify operations in solidarity with Gaza, striking Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea. The Yemeni leadership has repeatedly declared that such operations will continue until Israel halts its genocide in Gaza and lifts the siege imposed on the Strip.
Military spokesmen in Sanaa have emphasized that Yemen’s resistance is part of a broader duty to defend Palestine and safeguard Yemen’s sovereignty against foreign aggression.
Despite the clear targeting of civilian facilities, the international community has remained largely silent, failing to condemn or restrain Israel’s attacks on Yemen. Analysts warn that the systematic destruction of infrastructure like power plants will worsen the already dire humanitarian crisis, with civilians paying the heaviest price.
Yemeni officials stress that these assaults expose the double standards of Western powers, who speak of “humanitarian principles” while enabling and participating in a war that destroys electricity grids, water systems, and hospitals.
For many in Yemen, Sunday’s attack reinforces the belief that the defense of Gaza and the defense of Yemen are one struggle against a common enemy that seeks to crush the will of free nations. (ILKHA)
