Israeli regime orders military to target southern Beirut amid escalating Israel–Lebanon clashes
Israeli regime Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz have instructed the military to carry out expanded strikes on areas in southern Beirut, according to an official joint statement.
The statement said the decision was taken in response to rocket and drone attacks launched from Lebanese territory. Israeli occupation authorities claimed the operations were aimed at designated targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The announcement came following intensified clashes in southern Lebanon, where Israeli military sources reported the death of a soldier in a drone strike in the Yahmur al-Shakif area. Israeli occupation regime media identified the soldier as a member of the Maglan special forces unit.
In recent days, Israeli occupation regime forces have increased operations around the strategically important Shakif Castle area, while armed groups in Lebanon said they continue to carry out attacks against Israeli positions along the border.
The Israeli occupation regime military has also acknowledged mounting casualties since March, stating that dozens of soldiers have been killed and many others injured during ongoing operations.
Meanwhile, Israeli occupation regime authorities issued evacuation warnings for several towns in southern Lebanon, including areas around Sidon and Jezzine, urging residents to leave ahead of expected strikes.
Lebanese sources reported continued Israeli air raids throughout the day, targeting multiple areas including Toul, Meifadoun, and Haruf, with both residential zones and infrastructure reportedly affected.
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, more than 3,000 people have been killed and over 10,000 injured since the escalation began in March, while over one million people have been displaced due to ongoing attacks. (ILKHA)
