Reconstruction work on Kabul's Al-Shifa Hospital has reached 60% completion, with the facility expected to be officially inaugurated by the end of the year, Afghan authorities announced.

The project, valued at 1.4 billion Afghanis (AFN) and fully funded through the national budget, is aimed at expanding the country's healthcare infrastructure and improving access to specialized medical services for patients across Afghanistan.

According to officials, the redevelopment of Al-Shifa Hospital will significantly enhance the hospital's capacity to provide advanced medical treatment in several key specialties. Upon completion, the facility will offer specialized services in cardiology, nephrology, hemodialysis, oncology, and general surgery, in addition to intensive care and emergency medical services.

Authorities said the upgraded hospital is expected to provide high-quality healthcare to hundreds of patients each day, helping to reduce pressure on other major medical centers in the capital while improving access to specialized treatment.

The reconstruction project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Afghanistan's public healthcare system by modernizing medical facilities and expanding the availability of specialized services throughout the country.

Once operational, the new Al-Shifa Hospital is expected to play a key role in treating patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases, kidney disorders, cancer, and other complex medical conditions that often require advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities.

Officials expressed confidence that the project will be completed on schedule, with the hospital expected to begin serving patients following its planned inauguration later this year. The facility is anticipated to become one of Kabul's leading public hospitals, contributing to improved healthcare services and expanding access to critical medical care for residents of the capital and surrounding provinces.
